At Specialist Dental Group, we believe it is important to contribute back to the community. Our dental specialists and staff have been active in the community, both in a professional and personal capacity over the years. This includes serving in grassroots organizations, sharing dental information at community events, and providing dental treatment to special needs children.
In 1999, Dr Elizabeth Tan who was our children dentist during then, was one of the founding dentists to set up the dental clinic to provide services for special needs children at Rainbow Centre, It currently serves 900 special needs children and enables them to access affordable quality dental services. Dr Tan and her team of Specialist Dental Group nurses, continue to volunteer at Rainbow Centre on a monthly basis until 2018.
In 2011, Dr Helena Lee established the Henry Lee T L Medal & Prize in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Dentistry to honor Dr Henry Lee. The gold medal and prize will be awarded to the best post-graduate student with Distinction in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the final Masters of Dental Surgery Specialty examination. The legacy of our clinic’s founder, Dr Henry Lee, lives on today in many aspects – from the strong foundation of Specialist Dental Group’s dental implants practice to the passion for teaching that the clinical team demonstrates, and the promotion of excellence among graduating Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery specialists in Singapore.
In 2020, when many migrant workers were affected by COVID-19 and being quarantined, our team raise funds internally to purchase toothbrushes and toothpastes for over 10,000 migrant workers. More details can be found here.
Other community contributions from our team have included participating in One Community Day, helping to clean homes and distribute food to needy families in Kembangan-Chai Chee (2015), volunteering in soup kitchen, Willing Hearts (2018), collecting clothing for flood victims in the Philippines, Blood Bank donations, supporting World Vision’s Life Changing Gifts to families in developing nations, and local charity organisations such as HealthServe (2016), Salvation Army (2017) and Assisi Hospice (2018), Alzheimer’s Disease Association (2019), Migrant Workers’ Assistance Fund (2020), and Autism Association Singapore (2021).
Apart from community events, we strongly encourage our dentists and staff to lead a healthy and active life. We were awarded the Bronze Award in the Singapore HEALTH Award 2014, a testament of Specialist Dental Group’s commitment for staff to lead healthy and vibrant lives. If you are a running enthusiast, you may have seen the Specialist Dental Group team run alongside you, in the Standard Chartered Marathon, Shape Run, Garfield Run, Terry Fox Run, SAFRA Bay Run, Nike Goddess Run and 100 Plus Passion Run, as well as walk briskly in The New Paper Big Walk.
