Teeth Whitening
What is teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening refers to the process of brightening teeth that are discolored or stained by coffee, tea, soft drinks, tobacco, and other foods.
What does the procedure involve?
Shade charts may be used during the consultation stage of treatment to customize the perfect shade of white for your teeth. During the one-hour whitening procedure, a whitening gel is carefully applied to the teeth over the course of the visit. A safe, whitening light is used to activate the gel and bleach away stains on the teeth. Once the gel is activated, it remains on the teeth for 20 minutes until the process completed.
Expand All | Collapse AllHow much time before the whole process is completed?
One visit of about an hour's duration is generally sufficient. However, do bear in mind that for badly stained teeth, more than one session may be needed.
When will I be able to resume daily activities?
You should be able to resume daily activities immediately. Your dentist will also advise you to avoid food and drink that could stain your teeth for about a week, as well as to refrain from smoking.
Will I be in pain?
This is a totally painless procedure.
How long will the effect last?
Teeth that are whitened generally stay that way for approximately 24 months. Do bear in mind, however, that certain stain-inducing lifestyle habits such as smoking or drinking coffee, tea or red wine, will increase the likelihood of a patient requiring teeth whitening treatments from time to time.
