WHAT IS INVOLVED?
The Process
Consultation
Our dental specialists/ dentists will find out the details of your medical and dental history, go through a consultation and examination, and take an x-ray of your teeth and jaws, to ascertain if you are suitable for dentures. Thereafter our dentists will discuss with you to recommend the most appropriate solution for your needs.
Impression
Then, several visits are usually required to make dental impressions and take measurements of how your jaws relate to one another to ensure that your dentures fit right.
Fitting
Thereafter the final denture is cast and sent to the laboratory. When your denture is ready, you our dental specialist/ dentist will fit them in your mouth and check for fit. Final adjustments, if required, will be made. There is no pain throughout the entire process.
Follow Up Care
Modern technology allows dentures to be made very accurately and well fitting. However, most individuals will still take some adjustment time to get used to wearing dentures. You may also notice an increased flow of saliva during this period.
Start off with soft foods that are easy to chew, while your comfort level improves.
Our dental specialist/ dentist may advise you to wear your new dentures at night initially, gradually decreasing in frequency until you completely stop wearing them at night.
A well-maintained set of dentures can last for years, but they may need to be relined every 2 years.
Handle your dentures with care. You should remove them at night when you sleep and soak them in a glass of water. Do not put them in boiling water as the high temperatures may distort the structure of the denture.
Dentures should be brushed daily. You may choose to use specially-designed toothbrushes and cleansers for dentures, or regular ones. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or abrasive toothpastes which will leave scratches on the dentures. If you wear a partial denture, remove it before you brush your natural teeth. Then brush your dentures and soak them in a glass of water.
